'Hawks now front and center

The other Valley team to draw a high seed was West Valley, the No. 5 seed in Division III-A. West Valley junior center Joseph Burton (21 points, 16 rebounds and five assists a game) is eminently capable of carrying the Mustangs on an extended playoff run. Last season, they made the semifinals and lost to Corona del Mar, a possible semifinal opponent this year, too.

"I'd be lying if I didn't think we deserved a top-four (seed)," West Valley coach Chuck Peebles said. "But so be the case. Those are the seedings. They are what they are."
